A poorly publicized rider in recent levee board legislation has dictated an
unusual alteration to New Orleans city government. The City of New Orleans Parks
and Parkways Commission will be divided into two separate entities – a Parks Commission and a
Parkways Commission. At present only two candidates—Edwin Edwards and David Duke—have filed papers declaring their
candidacy. Mr. Edwards, who is currently serving the remainder of a 10 year prison term in Oakdale, LA
will be attending the debates on what has been deemed by federal prison officials “a probationary basis.”
Mr. Duke, the former state senator, will make his first step toward public office since a failed presidential
campaign in 1992 following the heated Louisiana gubernatorial election.
