Kingdom of Earth is the tale of two brothers enmeshed in a dispute over their father’s land. Lot and
Chicken argue in the shadow of an oncoming flood; the likeliest scenarios involve death and
being washed away. The arrival of Lot’s wife Myrtle further complicates the scene. A
comparatively obscure play, eclipsed in fame by the playwright’s earlier work, Kingdom of Earth
was chosen because of its relevance to current events, as well as Williams’ noted geographic ties
to the region.
"New Directions has just come out with a new paperback edition of Tennessee Williams' 1975 'Memoirs,' with an entertaining introduction by John Waters..."
